Trustwave Partners with Microsoft to Protect Customers

CHICAGO (November 16, 2010) -   Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, has joined the Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP) to be provided with vulnerability information in advance of Microsoft's monthly security update release to offer enhanced protection to businesses and organizations.

MAPP is a program from the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) that provides vulnerability information to security software providers in advance of Microsoft's monthly security update release. For the first time, Trustwave will receive advanced information from Microsoft about their monthly security bulletins to anticipate emerging threats and provide mutual customers with more timely protections. This information is shared in a secure and confidential manner to prevent it from being used maliciously.

SpiderLabs®, the advanced security team at Trustwave, is responsible for performing internal and external research to enhance Trustwave's products and services. The information obtained via Microsoft's program will provide an additional layer of intelligence to the SpiderLabs knowledgebase.

"Security is an industry challenge that requires collaboration. With Microsoft Active Protections Program, Trustwave and Microsoft continue to show each company's commitment to industry partnership to help protect customers," said Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave.

By receiving vulnerability information earlier, customers benefit from additional possible improvements that provide security protection such as intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, vulnerability scanning, and more. Additionally, it enhances protection at both the application and network layers as customers have improved defense-in-depth protections while testing and deploying Microsoft security updates.

"Our partners share our passion for industry collaboration to protect a world full of Internet users," said Dave Forstrom, director of Trustworthy Computing at Microsoft. "No one company can accomplish this by itself. That is why we are partnering with Trustwave to advance and improve security."
