Threat groups are uniquely open-minded when selecting their targets. They may issue platitudes about avoiding schools or critical infrastructure, but data from LevelBlue’s just-released Spotlight Report: Cyber Resilience and Business Impact in US SLED shows this is, unsurprisingly, false.
The threat actors' broad-minded approach means public sector security teams have to be as prepared as any financial institution or healthcare facility.
The report’s data reflects this reality, as 29% of US SLED executives say their organization suffered a breach in the past 12 months, with 46% noting that they are experiencing a significantly higher volume of attacks than in the past.
SLED organizations are also finding themselves being overwhelmingly unprepared for AI-based attacks, with only 28% saying they are prepared. The bright spot with AI is that the SLED sector believes it is marginally better prepared than the CIOs surveyed in the LevelBlue report Persona Spotlight: CIO. Here, only 20% reported being well-prepared to defend against AI-based attacks.
The Spotlight Report: Cyber Resilience and Business Impact in US SLED also asked C-suite and senior executives worldwide their opinions and concerns on:
- How they prioritize visibility into their software supply chain.
- The need for their cyber operations to become more proactive and aligned with their organization’s overall strategic goals.
- Are US SLED organizations elevating cybersecurity discussions to the highest level?
- Are US SLED organizations starting to balance their approaches to risk and innovation?
The report concludes with a four-step process to bolster cyber resilience that covers elevating an organization’s resilience, developing a resilient corporate culture, being proactive to improve resilience, and prioritizing supply chain awareness and resilience.
